OUR ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

At True Blue Sailing, we are proud to operate within the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and recognise the profound impact our operations can have on the pristine environment of the Whitsunday Islands.

As an operation within this breathtaking marine playground, we are steadfast in our commitment to sustainable and responsible practices. Our pledge to the environment is a cornerstone of our ethics, and we hereby declare our commitment to the following principles:

Preservation of Marine Eco Systems

We vow to protect and preserve the delicate marine ecosystems of the Whitsunday Islands. Our activities will be conducted with the utmost care to minimise any negative impact on the biodiversity of the coral reefs, marine life, and surrounding habitats.

Eco-friendly Operations

True Blue Sailing is dedicated to minimising our carbon footprint. We will continually assess and implement Eco-friendly technologies and practices to reduce emissions, energy consumption, and waste generation across all facets of our operations.

Environmental Education

We believe in the power of knowledge to inspire change. True Blue Sailing is committed to educating our staff, crew, and guests about the importance of environmental conservation and fostering a deep appreciation for the unique ecosystems of the Whitsundays.

Responsible Tourism

We advocate for responsible tourism that respects the natural and cultural heritage of the Whitsunday Islands. True Blue Sailing will work collaboratively with local communities and authorities to ensure that our presence enhances, rather than diminishes, the beauty and integrity of this remarkable destination.

Conservation Support

We support Reef Conservation via our active role on the Association of Marine Park Tourism (AMPTO) Operators committee. AMPTO is a founder member of the Cooperative Research Centre for the Reef providing support for scientific research on the reef, and developing best, sustainable, practices for industry members.

We also provide donation to local conservation project Eco Barge Clean Seas to support their Marine debris removal program and the Whitsunday Turtle Rescue Centre. Learn more about their work at Turtles | Eco Barge Clean Seas Inc.

Waste Reduction and Recycling

We will continue to actively reduce, reuse, and recycle materials to minimise waste generated during our operations. True Blue Sailing aims to leave no trace, leaving the natural beauty of the Whitsundays unspoiled for future generations.

Continuous Improvement

True Blue Sailing is committed to ongoing evaluation and improvement of our environmental practices. We will regularly review our policies, seeking new opportunities to enhance our sustainability initiatives and align with best practices in the industry.

We’re dedicated to ensuring that our presence contributes positively to the conservation of this extraordinary part of the world. Together, with the support of our crew, guests, and partners, we strive to leave a lasting legacy of responsible tourism and environmental stewardship.

OUR GUESTS

Sustainability isn’t just our thing; it’s your thing too.

True Blue Sailing welcomes our guests support in sustainable practices, such as:

  • Bringing a reusable water bottle which can be refilled onboard to reduce plastic waste,
  • Choosing Reef friendly sunscreens which are free of known reef-harming chemicals (like oxybenzone and octinoxate). For further information see Reef Safe Sunscreen Guide | Save the Reef
  • Ensuring nothing goes overboard with all waste to be disposed in onboard in the waste and recycling bins provided
  • Downloading the Eye on the Reef App which enables guests to access zoning maps and record Reef health, animal sightings or incidents. The app works outside of mobile range.  To download the GBR Marine Park Authority’s Eye on the Reef Sighting App visit Eye on the Reef app | Reef Authority
  • Be Mindful Shopping: We encourage guests to consider the origin of items when purchasing souvenirs while travelling and to avoid purchasing any heritage artefacts or items derived from rare or threatened wildlife species.
  • If Guests would like to offset their travel carbon emissions, we recommend Greenfleet, an environmental not-for-profit organisation whose forests are legally protected for up to 100 years. Greenfleet plants native forests in Australia that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and restore native ecosystems, and conserve biodiversity. www.greenfleet.com.au/pages/flight-offsets
  • The Whitsundays have been home to the Ngaro people for more than 9,000 with cultural sites such as Nara Inlet on Hook Island forming part of the Ngaro Track. To learn more visit. Discover Ngaro Country on Whitsunday Island
